Factors Affecting Undergraduate Medical Science Students’ Motivation to Study during the COVID-19 Pandemic

In the current study, we investigated motivational status and underlying factors of changes among Japanese medical science students brought by COVID-19 pandemic. Two groups second-year undergraduate (training to become technologists and/or researchers) participated in this study summers 2020 2021 writing essays describing how pandemic had affected their motivation study. A content analysis (both motivating demotivating factors) was conducted before statistical used investigate possible differences between sexes two groups. total, 73 were included analysis. The increased both (89% 62%, respectively); however, Group 2021, 19% (all women) decreased motivation. Among reasons behind motivation, showed a desire help/save others, contribute development science, increase knowledge, disseminate correct information. largely linked online learning negative emotions associated with lockdown. Our findings suggest that, for students, has been an overall experience our students. However, prolonged lockdown measures could attenuate be particularly disruptive women.
